Stupidity in Love

The monster whipped her with his black leather belt.
She jolted from the sudden attack
and retreated from him.

He did not give up.
He grabbed her head,
and banged it against the wall,
as though he was possessed,
until she was slumped against the bloody wall.

He was only gratified when he saw the pain in her eyes.

She closed her eyes,
trying to dispel her disappointment in the man she once loved,
and the monster she still loves.
